Famous Dogs From TV and Movies
Apr 20, 2018

Do you think your furbaby has what it takes to make it in Hollywood and join the ranks of famous TV dogs? Take a look at some of the famous movie dogs who have captured our hearts over the years:

lassie hollywood star

  • Lassie. One of the most famous dogs in movies, this canine was a hero. Lassie always saved the day and made border collies famous the world over.
  • Snoopy. Snoopy might just be the most lovable of cartoon dogs. With an active imagination, Snoopy worked as a writer and imagined himself as a fighter pilot, explorer and hero while waiting for dinner.

  • Old Yeller. This was the dog who made us cry and reminded us of the importance of family.
  • Scooby-Doo. An important part of the crime-solving gang, Scooby-Doo and his insatiable appetite caused hijinks and chaos while supporting Shaggy during every adventure.

  • Toto. In the Wizard of Oz, Toto was the tiny dog who survived a tornado and stayed by Dorothy’s side through Oz. His bark even helped uncover some mysteries in the magical kingdom.
  • Cujo. In this Stephen King movie, the lovable St. Bernard ends up in the wrong place and the wrong time, inadvertently causing a chain reaction of events leading to one of the scariest dog stories ever.
  • Beethoven. St. Bernards get a more sympathetic look in the Beethoven series of movies, starring an oversize and lovable dog’s adventures with his human family.
  • Benji. This mixed-breed TV hero was always helping those in need.
  • Rin Tin Tin. Rin Tin Tin is a loving German Sheppard who highlighted the importance of military dogs.
  • Buddy. The Air Bud series of movies introduced the world to this basketball-playing pooch, complete with his tiny basketball shoes. What many don’t realize is that the canine actor who played Buddy already had some acting pedigree, having starred as the dog on "Full House."
  • Santa’s Little Helper. This cartoon dog came into Bart, Lisa, Homer and Marge’s life on "The Simpsons" after Homer’s ill-fated effort to save Christmas. Audiences even got to see how Santa’s Little Helper thinks and views the world around him.
  • Clifford. The giant red dog is the star of a hit TV show based on a series of popular books. This huge dog asks us all to look at the world with a new perspective.
